Girls basketball followed two initial preseason losses with three comfortable back-to-back wins, against Gabrielino, Covina, and South Pas. Following a three-win streak, the boys fell to Providence and Pilibos in the Providence Tournament last weekend and then to South Pas and Blair this week. The South Pas victory was a close call, with the Rebels making it to overtime and ending the game down by only two. A 55-43 loss to Blair last night capped off a tough week of preseason.
Girls soccer lost 1-2 to Sierra Canyon last Friday, followed by a 3-2 win over Mater Dei (last year’s Div I finalist), a 0-4 loss to Los Alamitos, and a 2-0 win against Wilson. In their first preseason loss, boys soccer fell 3-1 to St. Francis on Wednesday. Before that, a 4-2 win over La Salle, 6-0 win over Monroe, a tie against Huntington Park and a 4-1 win against Sierra Canyon set them up for a strong season.
Following a 7-6 win against Alhambra, girls water polo faced losses against Alemany and Monrovia. Their scheduled match against Brentwood was postponed due to the wildfire and will be rescheduled.
Kasen Barraclough ’18 was named League MVP for the second time for his performance during fall season’s boys water polo team. A total of 70 goals, 35 steals, and his team’s fourth consecutive League title made it a strong finishing year for him.
