Flintridge Prep is in the process of seeking approval for our Campus Improvement Project from the City of La Cañada Flintridge. Our project is scheduled for a second public hearing with the City Planning Commission on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 6:00 pm in the City Council Chambers of the La Cañada City Hall.
The campus improvement project will help Flintridge Prep meet the challenges of the future to continue to provide an excellent educational experience for generations of students to come. Our project is the culmination of years of careful planning about the needs of our students and the place of our school in the community. There are four main components to the plan.
Collaborative Leadership Building
The key feature of our project is a new three-story building that will house Leadership, STEAM and Global Studies programs. Additional facilities and space for these programs will ensure the school’s regional and national competitiveness into the future. The new building will replace an existing building at the northern end of campus and is designed to blend into our campus and the surrounding neighborhood.
Enclosure of Norris Auditorium and Upgrades to Existing Facilities
We have proposed enclosing the open-air atrium of our existing auditorium, as well as other minor improvements to our existing buildings. Landscaping enhancements are proposed, as well.
Athletic Field Lighting
Flintridge Prep currently uses temporary field lighting to illuminate our athletic field for a limited schedule of events pursuant to a permit from the City of La Cañada Flintridge, which includes limits on the number of events and hours of operation. New permanent field lighting will reduce the number of light poles from twelve to eight and use state-of-the-art lighting technology to limit light trespass and glare to neighbors and to improve student safety. We are not requesting an increase to the frequency or duration of events that require the use of field lighting.
Flintridge Prep’s current enrollment is 500 students. We have requested an increase of 30 students for a total enrollment of 530 students.
In preparation for approval of our campus improvement project, Flintridge Prep has met with neighbors, received feedback and implemented a safety and traffic mitigation plan. Communication with parents on safety and traffic can be found here.
