Vick Liu ’16 and Masato Nakano ’16 have been named semifinalists of the 75th annual Science Talent Search, a program of Society for Science & the Public. 300 semifinalists were chosen from 1,750 entrants hailing from 512 high schools in 43 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and six American and international high schools overseas. On January 20, 40 finalists will be announced. We are very proud of Vick and Masato. Congratulations!
On Tuesday, February 16, Mark Sterner will visit campus during the day for an assembly with high school students about drunk driving called “DUI: A Powerful Lesson.” Mr. Sterner will present the same topic to parents at 7:30 pm that evening in Norris Auditorium. Financial Aid Deadlines

Blood Drive in Honor of Olivia Gaines ’13
On Friday, February 19 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, SCAC is hosting Flintridge Prep’s annual blood drive, which this year will be in honor of Olivia Gaines ’13. Olivia, who is battling AML, a form of leukemia, can speak personally about the life-saving impact of blood transfusions. The winter sports teams are off to a great start, with several teams ranked in CIF. Boys and girls basketball are both ranked #4, girls soccer #9. Boys basketball is first in the Prep League (10-3, 2-0), boys soccer is tied for first (7-1-1, 1-0), girls soccer is in second (6-1-5, 1-0), girls basketball tied for third (6-4, 2-1), and girls water polo won two of their last three games. Come out and support the Rebels!
Athletic Council on Leadership
ACL kicked off the second semester with their first two activities, Pack the Place, on Friday, January 15. What a great turnout at both the girls and boys basketball games against Pasadena Poly. ACL also joined in supporting a group from Mayfield Junior School called Reuse Your Shoes, helping them collect old athletics shoes at the game. The ACL will be re-starting the tutoring program at the Boys and Girls Club during second semester, and will prepare for the Homeless Adult Center Clean-Up in Pasadena on February 6.

Get ready to board the hippest, hottest musical extravaganza this season! Anything Goes, Cole Porter's classic hit sets sail this March for two weekends only. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, March 4 and 5 and 11 and 12 in Norris Auditorium. Tickets will go on sale in mid-February; check the school website for further details. STEAM & Service FAIR
Prep's STEAM & Service Fair will be February 11 and 12. The projects will be on display for public viewing during the open house on Thursday, Feb 11 from 7:00-8:30 pm in the gym. Although the fair is only a few weeks away, it's not too late for students to begin a project. Students interested in participating should contact Laura Kaufman, email@example.com, as soon as possible.
We’re excited to begin working with the Class of 2017! Juniors have been assigned to a college counselor and were made aware of their assignment on Friday, January 15. The first assignment for each junior is to complete the Junior Questionnaire, after which they can schedule the first meeting with their counselor.
Juniors who plan to take the March SAT should register now as the deadline is the first week of February. Juniors who plan to take the May SAT should also register now to guarantee the most convenient testing site; the registration deadline is the first week of April. For juniors interested in taking the ACT in April, the registration deadline is March 4.
Both sophomores and juniors should register now for the June SAT Subject tests. Students must use Prep’s CEEB code (052375) when registering for standardized tests. Princeton Review will be hosting ACT prep classes on campus starting Saturday, January 30. Interested juniors should contact Princeton Review at (800) 273-8439 and mention code Flintprep200.
Sophomores and juniors: For those curious to learn more about pursuing a special talent in the arts at the college level, we are offering a College Arts Information Panel on Thursday, February 18 at 7:00 pm in the Chandramohan Library. Interested families are encouraged to join us.
Sophomores and juniors: We encourage you to research academic summer programs. Sophomores, you’ll want to see Mr. Hare, 10th grade dean, to access the college counseling summer program database, and juniors have already met with either Ms. Kinder or Ms. Madore to cultivate research options. Questions about summer programs may now be routed to the junior’s college counselor.

Fathers Club Meeting: On February 9, we welcome the fathers to the new calendar year with a mixer/meeting in the Chandramohan Library at 6:30 pm. We will have several guest speakers addressing Prep’s emerging STEAM Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), and a presentation prepared exclusively for the Fathers Club by Enrico Gnaulati, PhD, the nationally recognized clinical psychologist and Prep dad (Marcello ’17). Enrico’s topics will include: “Helping Dads Parent with Authority” and “Healthy Parent-Teen Conflict.”
Golf Tournament, Dinner and Silent Auction: On May 2, the Fathers Club will host the Flintridge Prep 2016 Golf Tournament, Dinner and Silent Auction. This annual event benefits the John Plumb ’64 Endowment Fund for Faculty Professional Development and is a unique opportunity for parents, faculty and alumni to spend the day in support of Prep.
