Safety and Traffic Update, August 23
Dear Flintridge Prep Families,
We are excited about seeing you in the coming days of the new school year, and look forward to the grade level coffees where we will review important aspects of student life.
One particular focus for us this fall is enhanced safety, student drop-off and pick-up on campus, and parking. To that end, we are asking for your strict cooperation in these opening days in support of several new procedures. More details will be discussed at the grade level coffees which begin Tuesday. In advance, please review the following:
Traffic consultants have recommended that students cross Crown Avenue to/from our parking lot exclusively at the crosswalk at Crown Avenue and Foothill Blvd. In these opening days, we will have several officers to assist with the safety of our community, including a professional crossing guard. We will not be permitting Crown Avenue student crossings at other spots along the street. We are working with the City of La Canada for permanent procedures for crossing Crown Avenue.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Student drop-offs and pick-ups should occur in either the Hampton Road parking lot or the Crown Avenue parking lot. Students in grades 7-9 are assigned to drop-off and pick-up inside the Hampton Road parking lot. Students in grades 10-12 are assigned to drop-off and pick-up in the Crown Avenue parking lot loading zone. Drop-offs and pick-ups are also allowed curbside on the west side of Crown Avenue, directly across from the parking lot. Please do not drop-off or pick-up on the east side of Crown Avenue, directly in front of the parking lot, as that is a No Stopping zone.
Drivers are asked to follow all directions of campus safety staff and may only stop to drop-off or pick-up students in designated areas. Please do not make U-turns in driveways on Crown Avenue or Hampton Road.
These immediate improvements are the initial phase of a comprehensive safety, parking, and traffic mitigation plan which will address issues on both Crown Avenue and Hampton Road, and throughout the neighborhood. We hope, over time, to enhance safety and reduce congestion in our busy neighborhood where, along with JPL and five other schools, there are over 9,000 visitors each morning.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
