For the fourth year in a row (a record shared by only three other schools in the entire state), Prep girls cross country took the crown at CIF Div V State Championships in Fresno. The squad was unstoppable this year, as has been the case in several recent years. Sophie Gitlin ’18 earned her third all-state honor, finishing in 5th overall, while teammates Sasha Codiga ’19 came in 13th and Haley Allen ’19 in 16th. Success was also prevalent on the boys’ side this year, with Evan Pattinelli ’18 securing his first CIF State individual championship title. Collectively, the boys finished a mere three points behind the third place finisher, ending up in fourth overall. Teammate Carson Hasbrouck ’21 finished near the top as well, ending in 11th place.
Winter season is in full swing! Basketball is fired up and ready for another big season, with the boys’ side already boasting a 3-0 record. Their first matchup against Rosemead ended in a comfortable 56-40 lead, followed by two Providence Tournament wins—a 57-29 win over AGBU and a climactic 65-63 win over South Pas, where Johnny Le ’18 sunk a 3-pointer as the final buzzer rang. The tournament ends with two more games this weekend. After back-to-back losses against La Salle and Eagle Rock, the girls’ side came back at the end of the Mark Keppel Tournament with two wins, a 56-34 over Gabrielino and a 46-37 against Covina.
Soccer kicks off today, with the both the boys and girls sides taking on Sierra Canyon in away matches. Both sides have been practicing hard to gear up for another successful season, and it’s looking promising already. The girls have their first home game on the 7th, so be sure to come by and support if you can’t make it to any away games!
Girls water polo ramps up with two matches today and one tomorrow at the Burbank Tournament. Check back to see the results on the Prep website or in next week’s roundup.
