Middle Grades Survey of Student Engagement
Prep is participating in a national Middle Grades Survey of Student Engagement, which we will give in late April to our 7th and 8th graders. The survey assesses the extent to which students are involved in a variety of educational activities. Prep participated in the High School Survey of Student Engagement from 2013-15, one of a small number of independent schools to do so in a national pilot program, and the results helped illuminate curricular discussions. Individual students will not be identified on the surveys, and participation in the survey is voluntary. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Cooper, Dean of Studies.

Athletic News and ACL Update
Spring sports are in full swing, with 165 high school students participating! Teams and individuals look poised to contend for Prep League titles and CIF victories.
One of many stand-out performances was a third-place finish for Jack Van Scoter in the 3200m at the Arcadia Invitational. In the elite national caliber field, he shattered his own school record and is just off the best time in the country. Come out and support the Prep athletes.
Athletic Council on Leadership
The ACL kicked off April by hosting the Special Olympics competitions on campus in swimming and basketball. There were over 250 athletes from Southern California and 90 Prep students joined many volunteers from the community in making this a great day. Kudos to Jonah Sacks ’16 and Hanna Barakat ’17 for spearheading the organization throughout the day.
Applications for the 2016-17 Athletic Council on Leadership will be available starting Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 29, and can be picked up in the office of Alex Rivera, Director of Athletic Initiatives. A big thanks to Eric Panajotovic, VP New Dads Mixer Reception, and all of the dad volunteers for planning the annual welcoming event, which was attended by over 150 Prep dads and faculty members.
Parents Association Update
Thank you to our Prep families and our membership chairs Susan Pai and Karen Turner for a fantastic year. Going forward, Parents Association membership dues will be part of the enrollment fee, allowing us to eliminate our Parents Association membership drive. Dues help support all of our social activities, including the Family BBQ.
The Parents Association would like to thank Marshall Ayers, Juliana Erdody and the rest of their committee for hosting the first Prep Speakers Series on April 12. Special thanks to Enrico Gnaulati for his enlightening talk! We’re very grateful.
Flintridge experienced a great Admissions season, in fact so much so that the Admissions Office is not accepting late applications. It is highly unlikely that we will be going to the waitlist for any grade this year.
Congratulations to the music students of the orchestra, jazz bands and Flintridge Singers. What a stellar run of heartwarming performances, including the Spring Music Concert, the librarian conference and the Jazz Coffee House.
STEAM & Service Fair
Congratulations to all of the students who participated at the LA County Science and Engineering Fair. Kate Huntley ’21 won honorable mention in her category, Hudson Billock ’21 won third in his category, and Laura Ratliff ’17 won an EarthWatch award and science expedition. Hudson is an alternate for the California State Science Fair, which will take place in May.
May is a great celebratory month, as we watch our students complete a successful year. Please attend all events that allow you to savor their victories.
