Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone plans to have some fun this summer.

Flintridge Prep experienced another strong year in Admissions. Overall, applications were up 11%. Our geographical appeal grew this year, too. We received 9th grade applications from 81 schools, 47 towns and 6 states! We had a record number of sibling applications for all grades, and, of course, it’s always gratifying to see the interest from the children of our alumni. We are grateful for another robust admissions season.

Junior Internship Day

Prep’s fifth annual Junior Internship Day took place on May 10, with 100 juniors going to 40 businesses in fields such as architecture/engineering, astronomy, computer programming, finance, law, healthcare, entertainment, media, marketing and more. Thank you to parent hosts and students for making it a successful and educational day!

Final Exams

Final Exams are underway. See the calendar if you need a reminder of the schedule. Tutoring for the next day’s exam will begin at 10:45 am.

Please call Midge Kimble at (818) 949-5540 if your child is ill during finals and unable to take the exam(s). Mrs. Kimble will reschedule the test. The Chandramohan Library will close at noon during finals, except for Friday, May 26, when it closes at 10:30 am.

College Counseling Corner

College Boot Camp is June 8 and 9. If you missed registration, please contact Amanda Lem at (818) 949-5510. For those registered, you’ll want to bring a laptop computer to use, if you have one.

All rising seniors and their families will receive a college counseling summer mailing in early August. The packet will contain important information about the fall and an invitation to schedule a family meeting with your college counselor in August.

As you prepare to enjoy a relaxing summer, please keep in mind that preparing for the SAT or ACT should not be a part of your summer plans. The College Counseling Office recommends testing in January or March (SAT) or April (ACT). Please contact our office with any questions at (818) 949-5510.

Athletics News and ACL

We had two programs capture Prep League Championships—boys volleyball and boys swimming. Volleyball lost in the first round of the CIF playoffs, and several boys participated in the CIF swimming championships.

Girls swimming finished second in League and a few advanced to CIF. Boys tennis also finished second in League. They then won a wildcard game and lost in the first round of CIF. Girls track and field placed second in League, and the boys came in third, with several athletes heading to CIF prelims and finals. Baseball (third in League) and softball (fifth in League) were eliminated in CIF playoff games. The boys golf team placed fourth in League.

Athletic Council on Leadership

The Athletic Council on Leadership finished up their year hosting the Special Olympics on Saturday, April 29, with competitions in basketball and swimming. There were 17 programs from the Greater LA area and over 300 athletes who competed throughout the day. The ACL would like to thank all the volunteers who supported the event and made it a huge success for all the athletes.

If you have any questions or are interested in supporting the ACL, please contact Director of Athletic Initiatives Alex Rivera by email or phone at (818) 949-5564. ACL news, events, updates and photos can be found on the school website
